Beautiful Cotswold stone. Open countryside. An 18th-century barn. And a setting that moves effortlessly from a relaxed daytime celebration into an incredible evening party.
Lapstone Barn is everything a Cotswolds wedding should feel like.
Set just outside Chipping Campden in the North Cotswolds, Lapstone combines the character of a Grade II-listed barn with contemporary spaces, landscaped grounds and a secluded courtyard.
Having performed at Lapstone Barn, I know the venue, the flow of the day and how the atmosphere changes once dinner finishes and everyone is ready to party.
My job is to make the music develop with it.
Music That Feels Like You
There isn't a Lapstone Barn playlist.
And there definitely isn't an ARDJ list of songs that gets played at every wedding.
Before your day, we'll talk about the music you genuinely love.
The artists you grew up listening to.
The tracks that remind you of particular moments.
The songs your friends will instantly recognise.
Your must-plays.
And anything you absolutely don't want to hear.
That gives me the direction.
What happens from there depends on your guests.
Because the best wedding dance floors aren't programmed months in advance.
They're read in real time.
The right music, at the right moment, for the people in front of me.
From the Cotswold Countryside to the Dance Floor
Lapstone works particularly well for an all-day soundtrack because the wedding naturally moves through different spaces and different atmospheres.
The ceremony.
Drinks in the courtyard and grounds.
Dinner inside the barn.
Cocktails.
Then the evening party.
The music can follow exactly the same journey.
Ceremony
Music for your guests arriving, your aisle entrance, signing of the register and ceremony exit can all be planned beforehand.
Everything is timed carefully and kept discreet so the focus remains entirely on the ceremony.
Drinks Reception
This is where the soundtrack becomes much more relaxed.
Soul.
Funk.
Acoustic edits.
Balearic.
Laid-back house.
Disco.
Or something completely individual to you.
The music shouldn't dominate this part of the day.
It should simply make the atmosphere feel better.
Wedding Breakfast
During dinner, carefully selected background music keeps the atmosphere going without competing with conversation.
A wireless microphone can also be provided for speeches where required.
Cocktail Hour
Then we start turning things up.
Not literally at first — but musically.
The tracks become a little more familiar.
The energy starts to build.
The drinks are flowing.
And everyone begins to realise the party is coming.

Once the first dance finishes, the approach changes completely.
From this point, I'm treating your wedding like a proper DJ set.
Professionally mixed.
Open format.
And built around what's actually happening in the room.
I might start with soul and disco before moving into funk.
Disco might lead into house.
R&B into garage.
Indie into 90s classics.
Or the crowd might take us somewhere completely different.
That's the point.
I'm not there to work through a predetermined wedding playlist.
I'm watching your guests.
Reading reactions.
Knowing when to stay with a sound.
Knowing when to change direction.
And knowing when the room is ready for one of those records that suddenly brings everybody onto the dance floor.
DJ x Sax at Lapstone Barn
If you want to take the evening another step further, DJ x Sax works brilliantly at Lapstone.
The saxophonist performs alongside me rather than stopping the music for a separate performance.
We establish the dance floor first.
Then, at the right moment, live sax is introduced over selected tracks.
House, disco, funk, soulful house and Ibiza-inspired music work particularly well, giving the party another level of energy while keeping the DJ set flowing.
Sax can also be incorporated earlier in your wedding during the drinks reception or cocktail hour.
