Wedding DJ Oxfordshire

The short answer

Is there a luxury wedding DJ for Oxfordshire?

Yes. I'm Alistair Rutherford, a resident DJ at Soho Farmhouse, which sits at Great Tew near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire. I DJ weddings on the Oxfordshire side of the Cotswolds, including Caswell House near Brize Norton. Evening packages start from £1,150 and All-day from £1,750. I'm rated 5.0 from 123 Google reviews.

Most Oxfordshire wedding DJs sell a fixed menu: lights, letters and a photo booth. This page is about something else: how I DJ the night. I work from your taste, not a standard playlist, and I keep the setup quiet so the barn or house still looks like itself.

Your taste first

What do you need from us before the wedding?

Not a long form. A few artists you love, a playlist you play in the car, or simply where you like to go out is enough to start. Tell me the songs you can't stand, too; that list is just as useful.

I treat it as a guide rather than a running order. You add must-plays and do-not-plays in my online planning portal, as much or as little as you like.

On the night

How does the night actually feel?

I watch the floor and let your guests steer. When a run of tracks lands, I stay with it. When the mood shifts, I shift too, mixing between styles so the music never stops dead between songs.

The aim is a night that feels hand-built for your crowd, the way a good club night does, rather than a list played in order. There's no unnecessary microphone work, and no standard wedding playlist.

Venues

Which Oxfordshire venues do you know?

Caswell House is my Oxfordshire venue guide. Below it are nearby venues just over the county line, labelled with the county their own page gives.

Caswell House, Oxfordshire

Three restored stone barns with courtyards and gardens, near Brize Norton. My venue guide says: "I've DJed at Caswell House before, so I already know how the venue runs." The barns are yours from 10am until midnight, with extensions on request.

Caswell provides a sound system for background music. For the party I bring my own booth and sound. Any extra lighting goes through the venue's own lighting supplier.

Over the border

Stone Barn is near Burford, but its page places it between Burford and Northleach, near Upper Windrush, in Gloucestershire. "I've performed at Stone Barn." Late licence until 1am.

Lapstone Barn is in the North Cotswolds, five minutes from Chipping Campden and Broadway. "Having performed at Lapstone Barn, I know the venue."

Foxhill Manor is near Broadway, Worcestershire. "Having performed at Foxhill Manor." The Ballroom holds up to 80 for the evening.

Setup

Will the kit spoil the look of the room?

It shouldn't. Caswell House has flagstone floors, honeyed stone, oak beams and fairy lights already in place. I bring a tidy booth, professional sound and programmed lighting, and place it so the room still looks like the venue you chose, not a nightclub that has been dropped into it.

Where a venue has its own rules, I follow them. At Caswell House, for example, extra lighting is arranged through the venue's appointed supplier, so I agree any changes with the Caswell team before your date.

The day

What does All-day cover at a barn wedding?

  1. Ceremony

Music for arrivals, the aisle, the signing and your exit, with discreet wireless sound if you marry outdoors.

  2. Drinks

Soul, funk, acoustic edits and laid-back house in the courtyard while photos happen.

  3. Dinner and speeches

Background music that leaves room to talk, and a wireless microphone for the speeches.

  4. Evening

An open-format, mixed set built around your guests, right to the finish.

DJ x Sax

How does live sax fit in?

The sax sits inside the DJ set, not as a separate show. The saxophonist plays live over chosen tracks while the mix keeps going. It's priced for your date.

Reviews

What do couples say?

I don't yet have a Google review that names an Oxfordshire venue. This one, copied word for word, is from a Cotswolds barn wedding with sax.

★★★★★

We had Ali DJ the evening of our wedding alongside a saxophonist (James Sax) and they were amazing together! Ali listened to what kind of music we wanted and worked together with James to sort out a playlist, so that we didn't need to worry about that, and the whole thing was seamless :) Would absolutely recommend him - he was amazing! Thank you so much for helping to make our wedding day so fun Ali!

Questions

What do Oxfordshire couples ask?

What music do you play?

Open-format: Ibiza-style ambience, soul, disco, house, funk, classics, pop, indie, garage and R&B, shaped around your guests.

How much say do we get over the songs?

As much or as little as you like. Must-plays and anything you never want to hear matter just as much.

How long does the sax play?

Usually 3 × 30-minute or 2 × 45-minute features across the evening, timed around the first dance and peak moments.

Can you play during the cocktail hour?

Yes. All-day covers the ceremony, drinks, wedding breakfast, cocktail hour and evening party.

Can we add more lighting?

All-day includes 10 wireless uplighters. Some venues, such as Caswell House, set their own lighting supplier, so I agree it with them first.

What happens after we book?

Your date is in my diary. I usually get in touch about four weeks before to go through music, timings and details, but you can ask me anything at any point.
